What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a botulinum toxin type A injection, used mainly for the treatment of wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. It’s frequently referred to as the “new Botox” or even “Newtox” because it’s composed of a newer version of the same active ingredient used in original, typical Botox injections. While Jeuveau and Botox have the same main ingredient, there are some key differences in that Jeuveau may be used to treat, or is better to treat, specific types of wrinkles. In 2019, Jeuveau was approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles.

Both Botox and Jeuveau contain an ingredient that works by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. This is what helps it to soften and treat wrinkles and visible signs of aging. With regards to wrinkles specifically, it’s used to treat frown lines and/or glabellar lines (the wrinkles present between your eyebrows), along with forehead lines and crow’s feet (the wrinkles at the corners of your eyes). Jeuveau has been on the market for a shorter period of time, so it’s currently only FDA-approved for the treatment of glabellar lines. While the professional giving the injection could technically use Jeuveau to treat other locations on the face and body, this would be considered off-label use, in that it hasn’t yet been studied or FDA-approved for different uses.

While both injections have the same active ingredient, their exact formulas do vary slightly. Whether you prefer to use Botox or Jeuveau may need a certain amount of trial and error, as some people respond better to one over the other. However, Jeuveau may be a better option if you’re new to botulinum toxin injections and are looking for a cheaper option, and it’s also the best option if you’re looking to treat glabellar lines. Botox can be used for these same wrinkles, along with other types of facial lines.

How long does Jeuveau last?

How long Jeuveau lasts will depend on a variety of factors, including your age, the stage, and progression of your wrinkles, the area(s) you want to target, how many treatments you need or want, as well as factors specific to your health history. Generally, Jeuveau will build up and last longer the more treatments you receive, with results lasting from weeks to months.

How does Jeuveau work?

Like Botox, Jeuveau works by helping your facial muscles relax, smoothing the appearance of present wrinkles, and preventing the muscle contraction that causes the wrinkles in the first place. While both Botox and Jeuveau have the same active ingredient, their overall ingredients differ slightly, and some people may react better or see better results from one or the other.

At Men’s Health of Mississippi, we offer Jeuveau injections for our patients. If you’d like to soften or improve some visible signs of aging, we can help. While Botox or other cosmetic, anti-aging procedures have long been more popular among women, more men are becoming regular users of these procedures as they also see the benefit and great aesthetic results. If you’re curious about what Jeuveau can do for you, we are happy to provide a consultation appointment where we go over the procedure with you.

Which areas of the body can be treated with Jeuveau?

As you may know, Botox has many non-cosmetic uses, such as to help with chronic migraines, ease teeth grinding, or help mitigate heavy sweating under the armpits. Jeuveau, although similar to Botox, has not yet been studied or approved for these uses, and since it was only approved recently by the FDA, it’s so far only being used mainly to target forehead wrinkles.

We serve patients from Madison MS, Jackson MS, Flowood MS, Brandon MS, Ridgeland MS, Florence MS, Richland MS, Byram MS, Terry MS, Clinton MS, Vicksburg MS, and Flora MS.
